The Golden Pavilion

Colchester’s Firstsite is part of Plus Tate’s initiative to encourage visual arts to flourish across the UK. I went to see it whilst they we completing the build six months ago and I returned to interview someone there this week. I took my GF2 (new toy) and did a bit of exploring around the extremities and uncovered some great bits of sub-culture in the surrounding now redundant buildings which will soon be pulled down. So I’ve put a collection of images showing the contrast between the old and the new here.

This is the Golden Pavilion, Colchester’s Firstsite. I love its form, and the glow it brings to the town landscape. I’ve called it this being inspired by one of Mishima’s novel The Temple of the Golden Pavilion.

The interior & exterior are interesting and have plenty of opportunities for creative shots

This building will be demolished soon, I’m glad I captured this shot, the light was perfect. I also like the Vorticist feel of the next shot

There were plenty of other creative people and unique business in the surrounding derelict buildings giving a great contrast to the Golden Pavilion

And who said Zebra Crossings had to be black & white
